Math and Science Teacher

Full Time

SUMMARY
Under the direction of a principal, regional supervisor, coordinator, or assistant principal, to provide an alternative educational program to meet the unique needs of high school level (9 - 12th grade) at-risk youth in secondary schools by performing the following duties:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES
• Teaches students the basic learning skills and subject matter commensurate with their emotional, physical, and intellectual needs as set forth in the course of study.
• Provides an appropriate physical and psychological environment to establish and reinforce appropriate pupil behavior, attitudes, and social skills. • Provides a variety of educational experiences to stimulate interest and to broaden students' social perspective and knowledge.
• Maintains a variety of pupil records, including anecdotal records, for each pupil relating to assessed learning deficiencies.
• Designs and executes individualized instructional plans for students.
• Confers frequently with students and professional staff relative to educational process.
• Maintains students control by utilizing educationally sound approaches.
• Maintains records necessary to meet legal mandates of specific programs.
• Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
• Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress.
• Keeps attendance records.
• Maintains discipline in the classroom.
• Meets with parents to discuss student progress and problems.
• Participates in faculty and profession meetings, educational conferences, and teacher workshops.
• Implements SEA Charter school's educational model - 3 station model.
• Performs related duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting course of study, and counseling students in adjustment and academic problems.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES - NONE
QUALIFICATIONS
• Must hold a valid California Single Subject Credential in a core subject ( e.g. English, Math, Social Science, or Science) with a CLAD Emphasis. A California Preliminary Credential is honored as long as the teacher annually provides evidence of academic course work in pursuit of a clear credential.
• Successful teaching experience.
• Knowledge and ability to implement behavior management systems.
• Must have the demonstrated ability to work effectively with professional and paraprofessional personnel.
• Must have available private transportation.
• Successful teaching experience with at-risk youth, pregnant minors or youth with various learning needs in a multi-ethnic setting is required.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
The ability of a teacher to speak a language other than English is ordinarily considered a teaching advantage; however, teachers are expected to speak and write English correctly, clearly, and fluently.
