Overview
Soledad Enrichment Action, Inc. (S.E.A.) is contracted through the Los Angeles County Probation Department/Schiff-Cardenas AB 1913, and JJCPA
(Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Act) High Risk/High Needs Program to provide Intensive Family-centered Home Based Services to high risk/high needs youth between ages 14-18 and their families in Cluster (1) Area (2). (Pomona and surrounding cities and San Gabriel Valley) L.A. County Probation provides SEA with referrals of youth that reside in service area; services provided by CBO are intended to avert delinquent behavior and will promote school success. S.E.A. is a Community Based Agency that was founded by Brother Modesto Leon and the group Concerned Parents of East Los Angeles, S.E.A. has worked with high risk/high needs youth since 1972.
Successful delivery of home based family support services are to effectively strengthen the family unit, and to foster parenting practices, promote responsible youth behavior and decrease recidivism. Services are provided at participant’s home. Strategies for intervention include in-
home family support services and social learning through a mentoring approach.
Parent Support Services
These services enable parents to manage multiple aspects in child’s environment such as: Home, School, peer association and neighborhood. Services are also intended to strengthen family-through a family-centered, strength-based case management approach. Parenting classes are provided from S.E.A.’s “Parent’s Helping Parents” curriculum. Home visits take place two (2) times a week. For (13) weeks parenting sessions are provided, at two (2) hours each session.
Youth Support Services
Following a minor’s referral from Probation Department to S.E.A. Home Based Program Youth and his or her family is contacted to schedule initial home visit for enrollment. Mentoring sessions are provided to youth from S.E.A.’s Youth curriculum. Caseworkers also focus on identified probation case plan needs and implementation of individual service plan. Home visits also take place two (2) times a week. For (23) weeks mentoring sessions are provided, at two (2) hours each session.
Monitoring Services
Caseworker provides help and assistance to parents in monitoring their youth specifically between during the hours of
3:00p.m. to 10:00p.m. and on weekends. In any case that youth misses a weekly home visit with caseworker probation
officer is notified.
