The Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program (TPP) is committed to promoting and gear towards the development of youth and prevention of adolescent pregnancies. The TPP program will include awareness of Sexual Transmitted Diseases, HIV, social and life skills, and offer educational support for significant adults and caregivers. It will be accomplished by incorporating the following principles:

  1. Reduce teen and unintended pregnancies.
  2. Promote responsible parenting.
  3. Promote the role of males in the prevention of teen and unintended pregnancies.
  4. Increase the number of fathers who support the economic, social, and emotional well-being of the children.
  5. Promote postponing parenthood until one is able to provide for the physical, emotional, social, and economic well-being of a child.
  6. Increase community involvement in building healthy families through awareness of the effect of teen and untended pregnancies.
  7. Promote and support the development of self-assured, future-oriented youth capable of navigating through adolescence to responsible adulthood and contributing positively to society.
The TPP program wants to target youth between the ages 15 to 19. The total numbers 327 for prevention and education.  On clinical services targeting youth between the ages 15 to 19 is a total number of 163.  On education and support for teen mothers and fathers the target youth between the ages of 15 to 19.is a total number 38.  On life skills target youth ages 15 to 19 is a total number 70.  On education and support of significant adults,

parents, and care givers target population is 25 and older is a total number 228.  On train the trainer target population is 25 and older.  Total number is 98. 

This contract is for five years which began July 1, 2005 and is estimated to end June 30, 2010. The TPP program will service Compton, Metro Los Angeles Area, South Los Angeles, South Gate, East Los Angeles, Norwalk, North Hills, South West Los Angeles, South East Los Angeles, Boyle Heights and Pomona.

The TPP program is newly staffed. It includes Maria Del Angel, Program Coordinator; Christina Herrera, full-time Prevention Specialist, Adalberto Corona, full-time Prevention Specialist, Brenda Quintero, full time  Prevention Specialist Enriqueta Fierro, , full time  Prevention Specialist And Robert Ramirez, full time  Prevention Specialist.. 

The Program Coordinator has a variety of duties and responsibilities that include but not limited to:
A. Supervise daily operations, including direct services, administration and record keeping.
B.  Prepares program reports.
C.  Represents program at various agency and community meetings.

  1. Responds to internal and community correspondence and memos.
  2. Informs Director of problems and daily operations.
  3. Performs daily duties as required.
  4. Assigns plans and evaluates work assigned personnel.
  5. Provides instructions and training in methods and procedures.
  6. Adjust services to respond to changing client needs.
  7. Monitors procedures and related regulation for currency.
  8. Informs service providers of changes.
  9. Clarifies and implements policies for staff.

The Prevention Specialist’s duties and responsibilities are but not limited to:

  1. Assist in presenting pregnancy prevention curricula in classroom.
  2. Co- facilitates psycho educational and activity groups in community and school setting.
  3. Assist in planning retreats.
  4. Provides supervision at retreats.
  5. Write group notes.
  6. Collect evaluation data.
  7. Maintains appropriate confidentiality of information.
  8. Understands and follows policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  9. Communicates respectfully and effectively with clients.  Establishes and maintains agreeable interaction. 

The staff is committed to having a positive effect on the youth’s moral values as well as on their social skills.
