Mission Statement
To provide a series of highly structured outdoor programs in a wilderness environment for youth at risk of gangs, drugs and violence and the staff that service them. We believe that by helping strengthen the teamwork of the staff and enhancing the commitment of the staff to the youth, burnout can be reduced and commitment can be strengthened. We believe that by helping improve the lives of the youth we can be instrumental in improving the lives of their family and friends. We also believe that by helping our youth develop greater self-esteem, addressing attitudes and beliefs regarding people of other cultures, explore ways to improve our communication towards each other, improve problem-solving skills, increase emotional awareness, and self confidence in a trusting and supportive atmosphere, we are providing them the development of life long learning skills, which provides a valuable foundation for success in the 21st. Century.
Goals
SEA is committed to the health, well-being and professional development of the Staff.
We will:
- Guide students in establishing an ongoing support system with their peers, family, and social setting.
- Support youth in developing a stable and healthy lifestyle
- To enable students to believe that they can succeed and lead a healthy successful life
- Decrease student recidivism
- To help students identify attitudes and beliefs that often lead to stereotyping and racism.
- To help youth discover alternatives to violence by confronting negative behavior and by helping them develop greater self – esteem and self confidence in a trusting and supportive atmosphere
- To help students identify their individual strengths that will enable them to achieve academic and personal excellence.
Staff Development Days
- To provide trainings for the staff on achieving the goals and missions of SEA.
